The Morpho menelaus butterfly. The ventral surfaces of the wings are brown so if light shines from behind it appears brown. However, shine light from above and....hey presto! This amazing adaptation is due to the blue iridescent pigment on the dorsal surface of the wing. Fun fact- This is also one of the only butterflies that can fly in the rain due to tge hydrophobic nature of it's incredible wings. @cosmocaixa Barcelona science museum #scienceiscool #amazingscience #kitchentablesciencelab #butterfly #nature
