Half moon

A worrying moment last weekend when I realised during a dinner party that my husband and his 2 collegues (all Doctors) did not understand why the moon waxes and wanes..... They all told me adamantly that it was because the moon was in the shadow of the earth. NO, NOPE, WRONG, INCORRECT!! So I rocked out the old DK encyclopedia to prove them wrong (see next post) .... It is due to the position of the moon relative to the earth and the sun. A 🌗 is seeing half of the moon in darkness (as this side does not get sunlight) and half the moon that is facing the sun. If you've never knew this now you do.... go and reward yourself with all the jaffa cakes. ☺. #scienceiscool #scienceclub #amazingscience #jaffacakes #space
